    The Stewards held an enquiry under Rule 153 into possible interference approaching the furlong marker. They found that COCONUT MOON, ridden by Robbie Egan, unplaced, had interfered with THABAAT, ridden by Kevin Ghunowa, placed third, who in turn interfered with BAHAMIAN BALLET, ridden by Greg Fairley, placed second, who in turn interfered with LUNCES LAD (IRE), ridden by Darryll Holland, unplaced. They considered that the interference was caused by careless riding in that Egan allowed his horse to drift left handed. They suspended Egan for 1 day as follows:- Thursday, 31st July.

    The Stewards called before them Jim Crowley, the rider of STOOP TO CONQUER, placed second, and enquired into his use of the whip from inside the final furlong. Having heard his evidence and viewed the video recording of the race, the Stewards found the rider guilty of improper riding in the light of Instruction H9 of the Rules of Racing, headed “Use of the Whip”, in that he had used his whip in an incorrect place. They cautioned Crowley as to the future use of his whip.

    The Stewards held an enquiry under Rule 153 into possible interference approaching the finish. They found that ADMIRAL BOND (IRE), ridden by David Probert, placed second, had interfered with ARCHILINI, ridden by D. O’Donohoe, unplaced. They considered that the interference was caused by careless riding in that Probert allowed his horse to drift left handed. They suspended Probert for 3 days as follows:- Friday 1st , Sunday 3rd and Monday 4th August.

    The Stewards enquired into the fall on the flat of LINDSEYFIELD LODGE (IRE), ridden by D. Cullinane. They interviewed the rider and C. Poste the rider of BAILEYS BEST, P. J. Benson the rider of DAY’S OVER, both unplaced, and having heard their evidence and viewed the video recording of the race they were satisfied that it was caused by accident due to general bunching. They therefore took no further action.

    The Stewards considered the apparent improvement in form of the winner CLEMAX (IRE), ridden by R. McGrath and trained by Ferdy Murphy, compared with its previous run at Perth on the 1st June where it finished tenth, beaten thirty seven lengths. However, having received a report of the trainer’s explanation that the gelding was unable to dictate on that occasion, they decided not to hold an enquiry. The Stewards ordered CLEMAX (IRE) to be routine tested.

    The Stewards noted that EARL SIGURD (IRE) suffered interference on the top bend on the final circuit, but were unable to apportion blame and therefore took no further action.

    The Stewards held an enquiry under Rule 153 into possible interference entering the final bend. They found that the winner SIENNA STORM (IRE), ridden by M. P. Butler, had interfered with MEXICAN ONYX (USA), ridden by R. McGrath, unplaced, who in turn interfered with JORDAN’S LIGHT (USA), ridden by R. Mania, placed third, who in turn interfered with BOXHALL (IRE), ridden by W. Renwick, unplaced. They considered that the interference was caused by careless riding in that M. P. Butler had allowed his mount to hang in on the bend. They suspended M. P. Butler for two days as follows: Thursday 31st July and Friday, 1st August.

  • DONCASTER

    On a report from the Starter that DEBONNAIRE, trained by M Johnston, broke out and was withdrawn, the trainer’s attention was drawn to the restriction incurred under Paragraph 8 of the Starting Instructions and informed that DEBONNAIRE could not run until the day after it had passed a stalls test.

    On a report from the Starter that NAUGHTY FRIDA (IRE), trained by M Botti, refused to enter the stalls and was withdrawn, the trainer’s attention was drawn to the restriction incurred under Paragraph 8 of the Starting Instructions and informed that NAUGHTY FRIDA (IRE) could not run until the day after it had passed a stalls test.

    THOMAS MALORY (IRE), trained by Miss V Haigh, was declared to run but on inspection, the record of vaccinations in the passport was found not to comply with the requirements of the Rules of Racing. This being the second offence within 12 months, the Stewards fined the trainer £280.

    The Stewards held an enquiry under Rule 153 into possible interference approaching the final furlong. They found that AAHAYGRAN (USA), ridden by Fergus Sweeney, had interfered with AMETHYST DAWN (IRE), ridden by David Allan, both unplaced. They considered that the interference was caused by careless riding in that Sweeney allowed his mount to drift to the right. They suspended Sweeney for one day as follows: Thursday 31 July.

    The Stewards also held an enquiry under Rule 153 into possible interference at the six furlong marker. They found that interference had taken place between AMETHYST DAWN (IRE), ridden by David Allan, FIRST QUEEN, ridden by Pat Cosgrave, both unplaced, and SPARKLING CRYSTAL (IRE), ridden by Michael Hills, placed third. Being satisfied that it was accidental and being unable to apportion blame, they took no further action.

    The Stewards called before them Neil Brown, the rider of HASTY LADY, placed second and enquired into his use of the whip from approximately two and a half furlongs out. Having heard his evidence and viewed the video recording of the race, the Stewards found the rider guilty of improper riding in the light of British Horseracing Authority instruction H9 headed “Use of the Whip” in that he had used his whip with excessive frequency. They cautioned him as to the future use of his whip.

    The Stewards called before them the winner Andrew Mullen, the rider of FLASHY MAX, and enquired into his use of the whip from three furlongs out. Having heard his evidence and viewed the video recording of the race, the Stewards found the rider guilty of improper riding in the light of British Horseracing Authority instruction H9 headed “Use of the Whip” in that he had used his whip with excessive frequency. They suspended him for 3 days as follows: 31st July, 1st and 3rd August, 2008.

    The Stewards held an enquiry under Rule 153 into possible interference inside the final furlong. They found that the winner GRAZEON GOLD BLEND ridden by Robert Winston, had interfered with KATIE BOO (IRE), ridden by Fergal Lynch, placed third, but considered that the interference was accidental and had not improved GRAZEON GOLD BLEND’s placing. They therefore ordered the placings to remain unaltered.

    The Stewards called before them the winner Robert Winston, the rider of GRAZEON GOLD BLEND, and enquired into his use of the whip from the final furlong marker. Having heard his evidence and viewed the video recording of the race, the Stewards found the rider guilty of improper riding in the light of British Horseracing Authority instruction H9 headed “Use of the Whip” in that he had used his whip with excessive frequency, down the shoulder in the forehand position and in the incorrect place. They suspended Robert Winston for 4 days as follows: Sunday 3rd to Wednesday 6th August, 2008.

    The Stewards called before them C I Gillies, the rider of WESTPORT, unplaced and enquired into the reason why he appeared not to keep straight from the stalls. Having heard his evidence and viewed a video recording of the start, the Stewards found the rider to be in breach of Instruction H17 of the Rules of Racing, headed “Jockeys Riding to their Draw” and suspended C I Gillies for 1 day as follows: Thursday 31st July 2008.

    The Stewards called before them Tony Hamilton, the rider of OPTICAL ILLUSION (USA), unplaced and enquired into the reason why he appeared not to keep straight from the stalls. Having heard his evidence and viewed a video recording of the start, the Stewards found the rider not to be in breach of Instruction H17 of the Rules of Racing, headed “Jockeys Riding to their Draw” and took no further action.

    The Stewards held an enquiry under Rule 153 into possible interference approximately one and a half furlongs out. They found that RESOLUTE DEFENDER (IRE), ridden by Robert Winston, unplaced, had interfered with OBE ONE, ridden by Fergal Lynch, unplaced. They considered that the interference was caused by careless riding in that Robert Winston had made a maneuver to his left causing interference. They suspended Robert Winston for 2 days as follows: Thursday 31st July and Friday 1st August 2008.

  • LEICESTER
    Thursday 17th July 2008


    LADY LLANOVER, trained by P D Evans, was declared to run, but on inspection the record of vaccinations in the passport was found not to comply with the requirements of the Rules of Racing. The Stewards fined the trainer £280, this being his second offence within 12 months.

    The Stewards held an enquiry under Rule 153 into possible interference two-furlongs out. They found that LUXURIA (IRE), ridden by Ryan Moore, had interfered with YKIKAMOOCOW, ridden by Silvestre De Sousa, both unplaced. The Stewards considered that the interference was accidental and took no further action.

    The Stewards held an enquiry under Rule 153 into possible interference inside the final furlong. They found that PAYMASTER IN CHIEF, ridden by David Probert, placed third, had interfered with SONG OF PRAISE, ridden by Francis Norton, placed fourth, which in turn interfered with GOLDEN ROSIE (IRE), ridden by Michael Hills, unplaced. The Stewards considered that the interference was accidental and took no further action.

    The Stewards noted that PAYMASTER IN CHIEF, placed third, had interfered with IN TRANSIT (IRE), unplaced, which in turn interfered with SONG OF PRAISE, placed fourth, on leaving the stalls, but after viewing a video recording of the incident the Stewards were satisfied that it neither involved a riding offence nor improved PAYMASTER IN CHIEF’s placing. They therefore took no further action.

    The Stewards held an enquiry under Rule 153 into possible interference inside the final furlong. They found that the winner, TIME LOUP, ridden by David Probert, had interfered with LADY FANTASIE, ridden by Royston Ffrench, placed third. They considered that the interference was caused by careless riding, in that Probert had allowed his horse to drift left when not sufficiently clear. They suspended him for one day as follows: Thursday, 31st July.

    The Stewards enquired into the behaviour of ELLO LUCKY (IRE), ridden by Billy Cray and trained by J L Flint, which unseated its rider on leaving the paddock and on the course, and was withdrawn. They interviewed the rider and trainer. Having heard their evidence, the Stewards informed the trainer that future similar behaviour may render the mare liable to be reported to the British Horseracing Authority.

    On a report from the Starter that STREETS APART (USA), trained by W R Swinburn, refused to enter the stalls and was withdrawn, the trainer’s attention was drawn to the restriction incurred under Paragraph 8 of the Starting Instructions, and he was informed that the horse could not run until the day after it had passed a stalls test.

    The Stewards held an enquiry under Rule 153 into possible interference around the four-furlong marker. They found that KOSSACK, ridden by Dane O’Neill, placed second, had interfered with PARK RUN, ridden by Stacy Renwick, and ANGELS QUEST, ridden by Mark Coumbe, both unplaced. They considered that the interference was caused by careless riding, in that O’Neill had manoeuvred to his right when not sufficiently clear. They suspended him for two days as follows: Friday, 1st and Sunday, 3rd August.

    The Stewards enquired into the fall of Amy Baker, the rider of GONE’N’DUNNETT (IRE), shortly after leaving the stalls. Having viewed the video recording of the incident, they were satisfied that the fall was caused by the rider losing a stirrup. Being also satisfied that no other horse or jockey was involved, the Stewards took no further action.

    The Stewards noted that HURRICANE HARRIET, placed fourth, had interfered with HARRISON’S FLYER (IRE), placed second, inside the final furlong, but after viewing a video recording of the incident they were satisfied that the interference was accidental. They therefore took no further action.

    Thursday 17th July 2008


    The Stewards noted that the winner, SPEED SONG had interfered with PERFECT FLIGHT, unplaced, approaching the furlong marker, but after viewing a video recording of the incident, they were satisfied that it neither involved a riding offence nor improved SPEED SONG’s placing. They therefore took no further action.

    The Stewards noted that James Doyle, the rider of SEVENTH HILL, unplaced, had accidentally struck SACRILEGE, unplaced, on the nose with his whip inside the final furlong, but after viewing a video recording of the incident, they were satisfied that it did not involve a riding offence. They therefore took no further action.

    The Stewards noted that KING KENNY, and SACRILEGE, had interfered with KING COLUMBO (IRE) all unplaced, on the run to the line, but after viewing a video recording of the incident, they were satisfied that it did not involve a riding offence. They therefore took no further action.

    The Stewards called before them T. Quinn, the rider of OPTIMUS (USA) placed second, and enquired into his use of the whip from approaching the furlong marker. Having heard his evidence and viewed the video recording of the race, the Stewards found the rider guilty of improper riding in the light of Instruction H9 of the Rules of Racing headed “Use of the Whip” in that he had used his whip with excessive frequency. They cautioned him as to the future use of his whip.

    The Stewards noted that the winner, SLIP, had interfered with BLACK JACARI (IRE) unplaced, and KILLCARA BOY, placed third, inside the final furlong but after viewing a video recording of the incident, they were satisfied that it neither involved a riding offence nor improved SLIP’s placing. They therefore took no further action.
