A threat to the future of horseracing during wartime led to
the formation of the Thoroughbred Breeders’ Association
(TBA) in May 1917.
The aim then, under the leadership of Lord D’Abernon,
was to establish an organisation to speak and act in an official
capacity on behalf of breeders. That’s still one of
the main roles of the TBA today.
Situated in the heart of Newmarket at Stanstead House, close
to Tattersalls sales paddocks, and with 2,900 members, including
many based internationally, the TBA provides a strong voice
for breeders large and small in the racing and breeding industries.
Members are supported by a permanent staff of eight headed
by Gavin Pritchard Gordon (executive director) and Louise
Kemble (chief executive). The TBA council is chaired by Philip
Freedman.
Joining the TBA adds weight to the collective voice of the
association. In return you’ll get professional support
and advice, a free copy of the monthly Thoroughbred Owner
& Breeder magazine, free access to the HBLB Breeders’
Prizes scheme, and a host of other benefits which are detailed
on their website.
Membership of the TBA is open to anyone interested in thoroughbred
breeding.
