- Watership Down Stud Sales race
Originally the brainchild of the Thoroughbred Breeders’
Association (TBA), the Watership Down Stud Sales Race is
open to two-year-old fillies sold under the hammer at any
specified yearling sale in Britain.
The race, run over 6½ furlongs at Ascot in September,
has a guaranteed minimum prize money of £250,000.
Fifty per cent of that goes to the winner with prize money
paid to tenth place.
The TBA also provides Breeders’ Prizes to the first,
second and third placed horses, if qualified under Order
196, in addition to those regularly paid by the HBLB.
- £250,000 Tattersalls October Auction Stakes
This race is only open to two-year-olds purchased at the
previous year’s Tattersalls October Yearling Sale
(Part II).
To be run over six furlongs on the Rowley Mile course at
Newmarket.
Like many sales races, weights in the Tattersalls Autumn
Auction Stakes are determined by a horse’s purchase
price with more expensive lots carrying a greater amount.
Fillies get a 5lb allowance.
- The £300,000 St Leger Yearling Stakes
Doncaster Bloodstock Sales (DBS) and York Racecourse have guaranteed the minimum value of this race to £300,000
and it is now considered to be a group race in all but name, which was highlighted in 2006 when subsequent Dual Classic Winner,
Cockney Rebel finished a close second in the contest.
The race is only open to two-year-olds who were sold ‘under the hammer’ at the previous year’s DBS St Leger Yearling Sale or the DBS St Leger Festival Sales and carries prize money to tenth place.
- The DBS St. Leger Yearling Stakes
The DBS St. Leger Yearling Stakes is run at Newmarket Racecourse on the Saturday before the St Leger Yearling Sales
and is open to the 20 highest rated horses that are declared for the DBS £300,000 St Leger Yearling Stakes and are
balloted out of this contest. The race is worth a guaranteed mimimun value of £40,000 and has enjoyed a maximum field of 22 for many years.
