The Stewards held an enquiry to consider the performance of IF EVER (IRE), trained by William Young, which had not completed on her last seven outings. They interviewed the trainer who stated he had hoped that IF EVER (IRE) would run respectably in this race having been dropped back in trip to two miles. He added that it was now his intention to run the mare on better ground which he believed would give her a better chance of completing the course. Having heard his evidence, the Stewards forwarded his comments to the British Horseracing Authority.

The Stewards noted that BECAUSEWECAN (USA), unplaced, had interfered with DONT BACK DOWN (IRE), unplaced, who in turn interfered with FOUR FIDDLERS (IRE), placed fourth, and MITCHELL’S WAY, placed third, at the last flight, but after viewing a recording of the race they were satisfied that it did not involve a riding offence.

The Stewards held an enquiry under Rule (B)11.6 into possible interference after the final hurdle. Having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race they found that the winner, SEE THE LEGEND, ridden by Fearghal Davis, had interfered with ANCIENT TIMES (USA), placed second, ridden by Lucy Alexander. They found the interference was accidental and had not improved SEE THE LEGEND’s placing. They ordered the placings to remain unaltered.

The Stewards held an enquiry to consider why Robbie Fitzpatrick, the rider of LADY BROOKIE, had been slow to remove the blindfold. Having heard his evidence and viewed recordings of the start they accepted his explanation that the blindfold had become trapped in the bridle.

The Stewards considered the apparent improvement in form of the winner, FAITHFUL RULER (USA), ridden by D E Egan, and trained by Ronald Harris, compared with its previous run at Wolverhampton on 3 February where the gelding finished fifth of five beaten 16 lengths. They noted the trainer’s explanation that the gelding was better suited by having the run of the race. They ordered FAITHFUL RULER (USA) to be routine tested.
